Mythological creature that lures sailors to their inevitable death. most would call it fate, because a siren’s call is irresistible. When you hear the call you can’t run, you can’t swim, just accept the fate that the ocean is about to swallow your lungs.
According to sailor legends, merpeople are beautiful and benevolent beings who guide lost ships to harbor and bring great fortune to kind fishermen who empty their nets for a chance to hear a merperson’s song. The song of a merperson is an ethereal treat that few people at sea (and even fewer on land) have the privilege of hearing, but those who do are said to be blessed for the rest of their days.
Aredhel is a mermaid, born to a fae and a sea witch (mermaid). Cursed by wicked blood, Aredhel's song is doomed to bring misery and death to anyone who hears it. Though it is not her fault, Aredhel has been forbidden from singing to anyone (human or merperson) for as long as she lives. Unable to sing freely like their seafaring kin, Aredhel is an outcast and believes she will never know the joy of changing a human’s life for the better.
When she was 6 years old, she decided to visit for first time the human world, so she became a human and went to the beach. She met a boy and they started playing hide and seek. After some hours, he teased Aredhel about her reluctance to go in the water. To appease him, she walked into the ocean, and he screamed bloody murder the moment he laid eyes on her tail. Frightened and angry, Aredhel lunged at him, knocking him on his back into the waves. Filled with a desire and instinct she couldn’t explain, Aredhel held his head under the water, then ripped his throat out the moment salt water filled his lungs. Since then, Aredhel has traveled the world, embracing the siren song that clouded her mind, and is responsible for the murder of countless young men. The Seelie Court in Fae has feared her since her arrival, afraid of what the reckless young siren will do to the humans that live in the town, and what the humans will do to them to retaliate.
